CNN fired former host Chris Cuomo earlier this year following allegations of sexual misconduct. Cuomo wasn’t alone in facing accusations, as fellow CNN host Don Lemon was sued by a man who says Lemon sexually assaulted him.
Yet in a surprising move, the New York Daily News reported this week that Lemon accuser Dustin Hice has decided to drop his lawsuit.
“I am dropping the case”
The paper quoted a statement from Dustin Hice in which he recanted his story of being targeted by Lemon at a Long Island bar in 2019.
“After a lot of inner reflection and a deep dive into my memory, I have come to realize that my recollection of the events that occurred on the night in question when I first met CNN anchor Don Lemon were not what I thought they were when I filed this lawsuit,” Hice said, adding, “As a result, I am dropping the case.”
The Daily News went on to report that on Monday, a federal judge ordered Hice to pay $77,000 worth of legal fees to Lemon.
That development came after witnesses who had earlier been prepared to testify against Lemon began to change their stories.
Caroline Polisi serves as Lemon’s attorney, and she issued a statement of her own in which she condemned Hice’s lawsuit as being “a crass money grab from its inception.”
Lemon’s lawyer says her client has been fully vindicated
“Thankfully Mr. Hice was finally able to access his memory and recollect the correct version of events on the night when he approached Don Lemon,” Polisi declared.
“Unfortunately, being a gay Black man in the media, he has had to deal with these sorts of attacks for quite some time,” the lawyer went on to say of her client.
Polisi then asserted that her client had already endured “a long and difficult journey” but the judge’s ruling “fully vindicates Mr. Lemon and brings an end to this abusive lawsuit.”
According to Fox News, Hice claimed to have been approached by Lemon at the bar he was working at, after which the newscaster began “vigorously” rubbing his genitals and then shoved his fingers under Hice’s nose.
The bartender complained in an interview with Fox News Digital that CNN is “a network rife with predators and perverts.”
