Manchin strikes back, slams White House staffers for ‘retaliating’ against him

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), the moderate congressman who sent shockwaves through Washington D.C. on Sunday after announcing he would not support President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better legislation, slammed White House staffers for allegedly engaging in retaliation on Monday.

According to Fox News, Manchin made the revelation during a Monday morning interview with MetroNews Talkline, claiming that staffers within Biden’s White House had leaked “absolutely inexcusable” information about him in the wake of his tanking of Biden’s legacy-level social spending bill.

“Basically, they retaliated,” Manchin said. “I figured they would come back strong.”

What happened?

At the time of this writing, it was unclear exactly what White House staffers allegedly wrote about Manchin or released, but for the West Virginia senator to call it “inexcusable,” it must have been bad.

Manchin did clarify that he doesn’t believe the president himself was behind the leaked reports, whatever they may contain, noting that he’s firm in his belief that it was a number of White House staffers who retaliated.

“This is staff. And they drove some things and they put some things out that were absolutely inexcusable,” Manchin said. “And they know what it is. And that’s it.”

“They figured, surely to God we can move one person. We can badger and beat up one person,” Manchin continued. “Surely we get enough protesters to make that person uncomfortable enough.”

He added: “Well, guess what? I’m from West Virginia. I’m not from where they’re from. And they just beat the living crap out of people and think they’ll be submissive, period.”

Liberal backlash

It was only moments after Manchin made the bombshell reveal in a Fox News Sunday interview that liberal Democrats, and their allies across the media world, bashed the West Virginia senator for not supporting the legislation.

“It is really disheartening to hear him say that he has been trying to get there for the people of West Virginia because that’s a complete lie. The people of West Virginia would greatly benefit from their families having access to long-term elderly care and care for folks with disabilities,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said, according to The Daily Wire.

She added: “The excuses that he just made, I think, are complete bulls***t.”

Numerous other politicians on the left and prominent liberal media pundits piled on, accusing Manchin of dooming the entire planet with regard to “climate change” initiatives that were included in the bill that now lays dead in Congress.
