Mayor Adams accuses Gov. Abbott of trying to ‘manufacture a crisis’ by bussing illegal immigrants to NYC

When Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) dared to send 14 more illegal immigrants by bus to New York City, Mayor Eric Adams (D) blasted him for it and complained, “This is horrific!”

Adams accused Abbott of forcing migrants to get on the bus against their will even though Abbott said the bussing was voluntary. It was the second busload of immigrants dropped off in the city; about 50 got off another bus last week.

“We’re finding that some of the families are on the bus that wanted to go to other locations, and they were not allowed to do so,” the mayor said. “They were forced on the bus with the understanding that they were going to other locations that they wanted to go to, and when they tried to explain they were not allowed to do so.”

Adams also accused Abbott of using the migrants “as political pawns to manufacture a crisis.”

Lack of information

In addition, Adams complained that Abbott wasn’t communicating with city officials about when busses would be arriving in the city.

“They’re not letting us know when the buses are leaving. They’re not letting us know what are the needs of the people on the bus,” Adams said. “They are not giving us any information, so we’re unable to really provide the service to people en route.”

“In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city,” Abbott said in a statement on Friday.

“I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief,” he added.

Complaining about migrants

Adams and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) have done nothing but complain about immigrants being sent to their communities, even though the numbers are a tiny fraction of the ones showing up in Texas and Arizona border towns on a daily basis.

Abbott is doing this at least partly to bring attention to the problem of illegal immigration and how it is impacting border states and other places immigrants are showing up, thanks to ICE bussing and flying them to various locations on planes.

Texas in particular has done everything it can to enforce border restrictions even though President Joe Biden has pretty much opened the borders.

Abbott got 1,700 “surplus” wall panels from the federal government and plans to continue building the wall at the state level, since Biden has sworn not to do it.
