GOP congresswoman Mayra Flores said First Lady Jill Biden and Democrats are taking Hispanic voters “for granted” by stereotyping them and commenting about “breakfast tacos.”
Flores flipped a blue seat in the House last month, so she knows full well that many Hispanics are turning to the Republican party in frustration over Democrat policies that have caused 40-year inflation highs and doubled gas prices in less than two years.
“We’re going to teach them a strong lesson in November that they do not own our votes and that they need to bring back the good economy that we had prior to the Biden administration,” she said on Fox News on Wednesday.
She was responding to Biden, and she also responded to a CNN column by Raul Reyes titled “These GOP Latina candidates are not the ‘real deal.’”
“I am proud”
“I am proud of my culture and my beautiful family,” Flores told Fox News Digital in a text. “I was born in Burgos, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and raised with strong Conservative values to always put God and Family first. I have received only hate from the liberal media and constantly [been] told by the left to go back to Mexico. They don’t support us immigrants, they only use us for political power and don’t care about our well-being. I am here now, and I won’t allow them to continue taking advantage of my people.”
When Jill Biden said that Hispanic voters were like “breakfast tacos,” Flores said it showed that Democrats believed that such talk and Latin music were all it took to hold onto their votes.
“It’s going to take a lot more than that. We want gas, rent and groceries to come down. We want more money in our pockets, and they’re only making our lives more miserable,” she said.
Recent polls have shown a lessening of support for President Joe Biden and Democrats by Hispanic voters, and Flores’ election shows that some will vote Republican if they hear a message they agree with.
Like Americans in general, Hispanics don’t seem to be buying the president’s excuses about inflation and high gas prices being Putin’s fault or COVID-19’s fault, or anyone else but his fault.
The fact that to some extent, the buck stops at the top is hurting Biden just like COVID-19’s fallout hurt Trump, whether it is 100% his fault or not.
The trouble is, Biden isn’t doing anything to help the situation, even though he could cut government spending and open up more oil drilling to help with the price spikes.
The fact is, inflation and gas price hikes are fine with Biden because in a perverse way, they help meet his climate change and economic “transformation” goals. Voters of all backgrounds sense this, and they don’t like it one bit.
