House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) appointed Ohio Republican Rep. Mike Turner to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on Thursday.
Turner’s role replaces the departure of Rep. Devin Nunes. Nunes announced his departure from Congress to serve as CEO of former President Trump’s new media group.

“Throughout his long tenure on the Intelligence Committee, Mike established himself as a national security leader and ardent supporter of truth,” McCarthy said in a statement.
“Mike’s leadership of the committee will continue the great work of Congressman Nunes who has led the committee with integrity. Every American committed to the security and safety of this country should be well-assured of Congressman Turner’s leadership of the House Intelligence Committee,” he added.

“The House Intelligence Committee’s work is critical to our national security and as the Ranking Member I am committed to supporting the men and women in the Intelligence Community,” Turner said regarding his appointment.
“I would like to thank Leader McCarthy for his confidence and I look forward to working with him as we address our nation’s security challenges,” he added.
Nunes will move on to lead Trump’s new Truth Social media company. The organization has already raised a reported $1 billion.
“Trump Media & Technology Group today announced that Congressman Devin G. Nunes has been selected to join the Company as Chief Executive Officer,” the organization said in a statement. “Mr. Nunes will be leaving the U.S. House of Representatives and will begin his new role as Chief Executive Officer of TMTG in January 2022.”

The move will continue to strengthen Republican efforts on the committee as the party seeks to increase its power ahead of the 2022 midterm elections that conservatives hope will help win back the House.
