Kevin McCarthy accuses Nancy Pelosi of using pandemic to push a socialist agenda

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (D-CA) just exposed what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is really up to. Rather than focusing on helping the country through the coronavirus pandemic, the speaker is taking advantage of the crisis to push a dangerous socialist agenda, McCarthy explained Monday on Fox News.

Pelosi’s Republican counterpart from California was responding to a widely panned $3 trillion stimulus bill that the Democrat-controlled House passed last week. Republicans say the bill is partisan and has no chance of passing the Senate.

McCarthy: Pelosi using coronavirus to push socialism

A centerpiece of the bill is nearly $1 trillion for state and local governments struggling to keep their budget funded, but the bill has faced widespread criticism for including a bevy of far-left agenda items. Republicans say that the $3 trillion bill is “dead on arrival” in the Senate, and the White House is no more inclined to support it.

McCarthy skewered the proposal for focusing on tangential matters over the virus and economic relief for those suffering through a financial crisis, with millions of Americans out of work.

“Remember, what is this bill that they just passed on Friday? Well, it’s about pot, it’s about prisoners, it’s about politicizing election law, prioritizing illegal immigrants and pensions,” McCarthy said.

As McCarthy alluded to, the bill includes stimulus checks for illegal immigrants, protections to shield illegal aliens from being deported, provisions to protect the ability of legal cannabis sellers to access capital, and more. The bill mentions marijuana more times than jobs, as the New York Post reports.

Rather than respond practically to the emergency of the moment, Democrats are using the virus as “an opportunity to restructure government” and “enforce their socialism,” McCarthy said.

“Socialist wish list”

Republicans have routinely criticized Dems throughout the coronavirus crisis for pushing for costly and ambitious legislation that has little to do with the virus itself.

Democrats aren’t trying to hide their plans, McCarthy argued, pointing to comments from the likes of Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), who called the virus “a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”

“These are all things that are socialist wish lists that they’ve been trying to pass long before COVID ever came to this land, and that’s exactly what they’re trying to do, knowing that it will not go anywhere,” McCarthy said.

As further evidence of Democrats’ misguided priorities, McCarthy pointed to their “freeze” on the last coronavirus bill, which started out as a plan by Republicans to replenish the Paycheck Protection Program to keep small business payrolls funded. Dems pushed, through delayed negotiations, for a more expensive and comprehensive bill.

The left never lets a crisis go to waste.
