Ever since Democrats took control of the House in 2018, and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) resumed her speakership, her majority has done nothing aside from pressing a highly partisan agenda, launching endless investigations of the administration, and dogging President Donald Trump with impeachment.
If House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and his record-setting 2019 fundraising on behalf of House Republicans has anything to say about it, however, Pelosi will only have that majority for one term and will be looking hard at retirement from the speakership after November, The Washington Times reported.
Record fundraising totals
It has been revealed that McCarthy raised roughly $52.35 million over the course of 2019, a jaw-dropping record total that surpassed the previous benchmark of $44 million set by former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) in 2017. And those funds will be used by McCarthy and Republicans to achieve one overarching goal in 2020 — namely, to reclaim the House majority.
“House Democrats are the greatest threat to the greatest economy in our lifetime. The American people don’t want socialism. They want success, and a House Republican majority in 2021 with a re-elected Trump presidency will be ready to achieve it. We are united and prepared to win at the ballot box nationwide,” McCarthy said in a statement.
He went on: “We are united and prepared to win at the ballot box nationwide — with a compelling message and the most prolific recruiting class since 2010. These factors, along with President Trump’s ability to ignite Republican turnout lead me to believe we are on the cusp of delivering another Republican revolution.”
Speaker’s gavel within reach?
The incredible fundraising amounts garnered by McCarthy in 2019 were first reported by Breitbart, which noted that the $52.35 million haul was the most money ever raised by a single House Republican and was undeniably bolstered in the fourth quarter by donor response to the House Democrats’ partisan impeachment push that began in earnest last September.
McCarthy, who took over leadership of the House Republicans following Ryan’s retirement, has been front and center as a defender of the president and champion of his America First agenda, which undoubtedly has caught Trump’s eye and secured his strong support in return.
Trump told Breitbart: “We need to win back the House to retire Nancy once and for all, and to elect Kevin McCarthy as speaker… Kevin is tough, loyal, and smart — he has what it takes.”
That praise was echoed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA), who led a resurgent GOP to gain control of the House during former President Bill Clinton’s first term.
“Kevin McCarthy’s tireless work ethic has produced a new dynamic, united, and aggressive House Republican Party,” Gingrich said. “Thanks to his efforts, Republicans enter 2020 from a position of strength — with the necessary resources, recruits, and message to win. Kevin’s leadership, along with President Trump on the ballot are why I’m convinced this will be a one-term Democratic majority, and we will be hearing from Speaker McCarthy in 2021.”
All-out battle for House
In a statement to Breitbart, McCarthy said: “This election isn’t just about politics — it’s about what we want our country to be… With candidates that better reflect our nation’s diversity, we will compete for every seat, in every district. Together with President Trump, we are building a Republican Party that can win now and in the future.”
Republicans only need to flip 18 seats to reclaim the House majority, and for that effort, McCarthy has helped recruit an astonishing 1,017 Republican candidates in 388 congressional districts nationwide, record numbers of whom are minorities, women, and veterans, and all of whom are driven to wrest back control of the House from Pelosi and the progressives.
“House Republicans are united, revitalized, and prepared to win at the ballot box nationwide,” McCarthy said in a statement to supporters. “We enter the election year with a compelling message, well-resourced, and with the most prolific recruiting class since 2010. These factors, along with President Trump’s ability to ignite Republican turnout lead me to believe we are on the cusp of delivering another Republican revolution. Thank you for staying in the fight! Together let’s restore order to the People’s House and elect a Republican majority this November.”
