A former federal prosecutor believes that former President Donald Trump is more likely than not to be indicted by the federal government.
According to The Daily Wire, Andrew McCarthy says that there is a seven in 10 chance that President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) indicts Trump.
This comes following the FBI’s recent raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
The FBI, with the raid, was looking for documents that Trump took — possibly in violation of the Espionage Act — upon departing from the White House at the end of his term. According to the latest reports, the FBI may have found some.
Trump denies any wrongdoing. He maintains that the documents were declassified and that he would have simply given the documents to the FBI if they had asked for them. Trump further argues that the raid is part of the left’s plan to prevent him from running for the presidency in 2024.
The documents, however, are not the reason why McCarthy believes it is more likely than not that the DOJ will indict Trump.
Rather, McCarthy believes there is more going on here than what initially meets the eye.
The FBI’s “closet agenda”
McCarthy believes that the FBI’s real purpose in carrying out the Mar-a-Lago raid was to look for potential evidence relating to Trump’s role in the events of Jan. 6, 2021.
“I think they are mainly trying to make a case on Trump related to January 6, and I think that if you look at the timeline of what they’ve done in the six weeks in which this Mar-a-Lago search is included, that becomes clear,” McCarthy recently said.
McCarthy referred to this as the FBI’s “closet agenda,” suggesting that the FBI simply used the search for classified documents as a ploy to gain access to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
With that being said, McCarthy expressed his belief “that seven chances in ten” Trump will be indicted by Biden’s DOJ. McCarthy insisted that, “they may add classified information charges now that they’ve done this, but they are gunning to get him … on January 6.”
We’ll see if McCarthy turns out to be right on this one. Given the information that we are learning, it sure does make a lot more sense than the idea that the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago over documents that Trump claims he was more than willing to hand over.
