Despite strained relationships between former President Donald Trump and many within the Republican Party establishment, he has indicated a willingness to remain an influential force within GOP politics.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) recently confirmed after a meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida that the 45th president is committed to assisting the party in its efforts to reclaim a congressional majority in next year’s midterm elections.
“House Republicans defied the experts”
According to the Post Millenial, McCarthy, who appears to have developed a genuine friendship with Trump, issued a public statement this week to reveal certain details from their private meeting.
“House Republicans and the Trump administration achieved historic results for all Americans,” McCarthy proclaimed. “We were able to do this because we listened to and understood the concerns of our fellow citizens that had long been ignored. As a result, House Republicans defied the experts and the media by expanding our growing coalition across the country.”
As the House GOP leader noted, Trump has vowed to continue working on the party’s behalf by “helping elect Republicans in the House and Senate in 2022.”
By securing a majority on Capitol Hill, McCarthy argued that Republicans “will listen to our fellow Americans and solve the challenges facing our nation.”
His statement also included pointed criticism of the Democratic Party, claiming that its members “have only put forward an agenda that divides us — such as impeaching a President who is now a private citizen and destroying blue-collar energy jobs.”
“Very good and cordial”
McCarthy insisted that the Democratic “agenda must be stopped” in favor of a right-wing platform that “will strengthen the bonds of our citizens and uphold the freedoms our country was founded on.”
CBS News reported that the meeting between Trump and McCarthy was described as “very good and cordial” by members of the former president’s team, explaining that the two discussed “many topics, number one of which was taking back the House in 2022.
“President Trump has agreed to work with Leader McCarthy on helping the Republican Party become a majority in the House,” asserted the Trump-aligned Save America PAC. “They worked very well together in the last election and picked up at least 15 seats when most predicted it would be the opposite. They will do so again, and the work has already started.”
As the Save America PAC concluded: “President Trump’s popularity has never been stronger than it is today, and his endorsement means more than perhaps any endorsement at any time.”
