Columnist sheds light on left-wing media’s contempt for Fox News

If it was any secret that those in the liberal media have it out for Fox News, a few talking heads on CNN just confirmed it, writes Washington Examiner columnist Paul Bedard.

In an article published Monday, Bedard remarked that “[f]ew stick together like the liberal media,” pointing to an exchange between the Baltimore Sun’s David Zurawik and CNN personality Brian Stelter on Sunday’s episode of CNN’s Reliable Sources.

Regarding how conservative journalists have responded to President Donald Trump’s announcement that he would nominate a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Zurawik said, “This isn’t cheerleading.”

“This is beyond rabble-rousing”

“This is beyond rabble-rousing,” the liberal writer said, accusing those on the right of “waving the shirt and calling for blood,” according to Bedard.

“And I’ll tell you what, Brian,” Zurawik continued. “We have to admit, we in the mainstream press have to admit that we are at a disadvantage in this.”

Zurawik claimed that CNN “operates as a journalistic institution,” insisting that those at the network “play by those rules” of journalistic integrity, as Bedard reported.

Zurawik: CNN “can’t” lie

In contrast, the left-wing political commentator cast Fox News and online conservative media outlets as being tools to push certain ideologies and to aid candidates.

“If your goal is as a political outlet to just simply win, you can lie — you can be just like Donald Trump,” Zurawik said, according to Bedard. “You can lie, you can smear, you can libel, you can slander, you can do all that. The goal is to win. We can’t do that.”

The suggestion that CNN is incapable of lying or slander would probably come as a surprise to former Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann, who sued CNN for its unfounded smears against him last year. CNN opted to settle in the multi-million dollar suit, as Fox News reported.

“How ridiculous”

Speaking with Bedard, Brent Baker, the Media Research Center’s vice president of research, expressed his own derision at the idea that CNN is free from political activism.

“How ridiculous,” Baker said. “CNN and other ‘mainstream’ outlets long ago became ‘political tools’ of the Left, and the conservative outlets were created as a counterweight.”

He continued: “Far from any kind of virtuous model of journalistic integrity, CNN is a leader in advancing liberal political ideology and serves as the mouthpiece of the ‘Never Trump’ movement.”
