Many Americans were stunned to learn of 65-year-old comedian Bob Saget’s death in an Orlando hotel room on Sunday.
An autopsy has been completed, but it appears the cause of Saget’s tragic passing will remain a mystery, for now. According to the results, Saget did not die of foul play or a drug overdose, but the medical examiner says more time is needed to fully determine what happened, Fox News reports.
No drugs or foul play
The medical examiner, Joshua Stephany, of Orange and Osceola Counties, shared the update in a statement.
“The cause and manner of death are pending further studies and investigation,” Stephany said. “At this time, there is no evidence of drug use or foul play.”
“Our condolences go out to Mr. Saget’s loved ones during this difficult time.”
CBS News noted that Saget had just begun a stand-up tour and was planning to check out of the Ritz Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes Sunday when he was found unresponsive by hotel staff in his room at 4 p.m. His family had not heard from him.
A police report described Saget’s hotel room as tidy. He was found lying on his back, with his “left arm was across his chest while his right arm was resting on the bed.”
Investigation not finished
As speculation continues to build, the medical examiner says it may take up to 12 weeks to finish the investigation.
Saget’s family, fans, and former Full House co-stars responded to his passing with an outpouring of grief.
“We are devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today,” a statement from the Saget family said. “He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter.”
In his last tweet early Sunday, sent just hours before his death, Saget said he was “addicted” to his job after what turned out to be his last performance. Saget revealed shortly before his death that he suffered a tough bout with COVID-19, and was fully vaccinated and recently boosted.
The police say that it is possible that Saget had a heart attack or a stroke, and they are looking into whether he developed a fatal blood clot from COVID-19, although it appears the public will just have to wait for more information.
