The class of 2026 medical students at the University of Minnesota Medical School went far beyond the Hippocratic Oath at their White Coat Ceremony with a pledge against inequity, White Supremacy, and colonialism.
“Our institution is located on Dakota land…We commit to uprooting the legacy and perpetuation of structural violence deeply embedded within the health care system,” their oath began.
“We recognize the inequities built by past and present traumas rooted in white supremacy, colonialism, the gender binary, ableism, and all other forms of oppression,” the oath stated.
The oath was written by a committee of 15 students in the class of 2026. Students write an extension of the Hippocratic Oath each year.
Common practice
UMMS Media Relations Manager Kat Dodge told Campus Reform, “It is a common practice at medical schools in the United States to build upon the intent of the Hippocratic Oath to promote humility, integrity, and beneficence.”
“Each year at the University of Minnesota Medical School, the incoming students work with faculty to write an oath that reflects these core elements, values, and ethics the class aspires to uphold,” Dodge explained.
In this year’s oath, students also pledge “to honor all Indigenous ways of healing” that are “historically marginalized by Western medicine.”
Seems like if they really want to right historic injustices, they would tear down the school and give the land back to the Dakota people.
A nationwide problem
The New York Post said that most top medical schools are now asking students questions about their beliefs that make it clear they will be expected to toe the woke line and agree with the schools’ political agenda.
Top-ranked Harvard requires applicants to state their woke credentials and seems to suggest it won’t accept students who might have “white privilege” or who can’t articulate their challenges.
Duke, which is also in the top 10, tells students about its “collective stand against systemic racism and injustice” before asking them about their views.
These schools and many others have become so brazen that they don’t even try to pretend they are actually fair anymore. If students aren’t woke, they can kiss their elite medical career goodbye.
