Throughout the 2020 election campaign, Joe Biden promised to make revamping the Trump administration’s immigration and border policies a key priority of his administration.
Conservative Fox News host Tucker Carlson reported last week that a newly uncovered email shows that President Biden has already made changes to how immigration laws are enforced, and the results are disturbing.
Email: “Release them all, immediately”
“As of midnight tonight, stop all removals,” reads an internal message to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Texas, which was exclusively obtained by Fox News. “This includes Mexican bus runs, charter flights, and commercial removals (until further notice) …”
The message went on to say that “all cases are to be considered [no significant likelihood of removal in foreseeable future],” adding, “Release them all, immediately. No sponsor available is not acceptable any longer.”
As Carlson explained, “The official who sent the email noted that he was just ‘the messenger’ explaining the directive. In other words, it wasn’t his idea. It was Joe Biden’s.”
The internal email comes in the wake of a 100-day freeze on deportations that was recently issued by the Biden administration’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
“Now, this email was news to us,” Carlson told his viewers. “The memorandum from the Biden administration to halt deportations did not call for people here illegally to be released from detention.”
“So we made some calls, and we learned that the Department of Homeland Security is currently hammering out how to enact the memorandum.”
“It does not specifically call for the instant release of all migrants in detention. So, what was this memo about?” the television host asked.
Chaos and incompetence
He concluded that it is simply “the result of the complete chaos that resulted when the incoming administration, on its first day, changed a policy this big without explaining what it means.”
“Chaos is the predictable result,” Carlson continued. “We thought the last administration had a monopoly on that chaos. Apparently not.”
During an interview with Vice last January, Biden said that ICE agents should “only arrest for the purpose of dealing with a felony that’s committed, and I don’t count drunk driving as a felony. You change the culture by saying you are going to get fired,” he threatened. “You are fired if, in fact, you do that.”
