Mexican actor Rebecca Jones died Wednesday. The beloved star, known for her roles in telenovelas, was just 65.

Her agency shared the sad news, saying she passed with her family by her side. The cause of death wasn't immediately clear, but Jones had struggled with health issues.

“It’s with profound sadness that we inform you of the death of our beloved and admired Rebecca Anne Jones Fuentes (May 21, 1957 - March 22, 2023),” the statement said.

The statement added that Jones passed "in peace and with the utmost gratitude for her audience."

Mexican star Salma Hayek is among those paying tribute to Jones.

"Excellent actress, extraordinary human being. Rebecca, you left a mark on all of us who had the fortune of knowing you. We will miss you!" Hayek wrote on Instagram.

Born in Mexico, Jones moved to southern California as a girl, where she attended high school and college.

She later moved back to Mexico, where she launched a successful acting career and met her former husband, actor Alejandro Camacho, with whom she had one child. Some of her notable TV shows include Dos vidasImperio de cristalQue te perdone Dios, and La Casa de las Flores.

Jones was forced to give up her last acting job when she was hospitalized with pneumonia in November. She had also battled ovarian cancer.

While the treatment was reportedly successful, and she dismissed reports to the contrary, her ex-husband said last year that the cancer had returned.

“Rebecca is perfectly fine, she is working, she is healthy. She indeed has cancer, but she is such a strong woman and she has so much strength that she is fine," he said at the time.

Jones attended a private screening of her last movie, Nothing to See, on March 5 that was organized by her colleagues. Jones, who was unable to attend the movie's premiere, was overwhelmed with gratitude.

“I know that I am very thin, but as Saint-Exupéry says: what is essential is invisible to the eye. (And believe me, 8 days in intensive care make anyone lose weight, I will recover it), but that is the least of my worries, now I only know that every day I am stronger and healthier,” she wrote.
