Former First Lady Michelle Obama left the White House nearly three years ago, but that hasn’t stopped the liberal media from continuing its obsessive love affair with her.
To wit, People magazine just named Obama as one of its select “People of the Year” for 2019 and placed her on the cover of a special commemorative issue, The Daily Caller reported. She will share the honor this year with women such as Jennifer Anniston, Jennifer Lopez, and Taylor Swift.

Yet another honor
Garnering the honor of being named among the magazine’s “People of the Year” typically requires some sort of notable accomplishment, and in Obama’s case that appears to be the success of her best-selling memoir Becoming, which was actually released in late 2018.
Counting print, digital, and audiobook, Becoming has reportedly sold upwards of 11.7 million copies since it was first published and has been on pace to be one of the best-selling memoirs of all time, according to The Washington Post.
The book also served as the basis of a blockbuster promotional tour over the year that saw Obama drawing huge crowds that filled large arenas to hear her share her personal story.
In addition to the book sales and speaking tour, Obama was also nominated for a Grammy award for the audio version, released her first special created exclusively for Netflix, was named as the “World’s Most Admired Woman” by a YouGov poll and was included on TIME magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world, according to the U.K.’s Telegraph.
Sharing her story
In an interview with People ahead of the special issue in which she is featured, Obama noted how different life is away from the White House and admitted that she hadn’t expected her memoir and promotional tour to do so well. In fact, she claims to have worried that it wouldn’t be successful at all.
“I still remember waking up in a bit of a panic the night before my first tour event in the United Center in Chicago, this huge basketball arena. Were people really going to come? Was it going to be any good?” Obama said. “Here I’d been first lady of the United States for eight years, giving speeches in front of huge crowds, but this felt so different.
“I recognize now that the memoir and the tour were really different than what I’d done before — I wasn’t promoting a policy or rallying votes; I was out there, alone, talking about my feelings and vulnerabilities,” Obama added. “That’s enough for anybody to lose a little sleep.”
Set-up for 2020?
To the average American, particularly those who are conservatives, the liberal media’s continuing infatuation with the former first lady can seem somewhat inexplicable, especially in comparison to the cold, and at times hostile, relationship the media has with the current first lady, Melania Trump.
But to observant political watchers with an eye on the dismal field of Democratic candidates for 2020 — none of whom have caught fire with the American people — this perpetual propping up of Obama bears all the hallmarks of a set-up for her to make a late entry into the race as a popular contender who could potentially defeat President Donald Trump.
