The Daily Wire reports that the Women’s March has joined those on the left calling for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to be impeached.
The impeachment calls follow a report released by CBS News and The Washington Post last week revealing text messages that Thomas’ wife, conservative advocate Virginia Thomas, sent to then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows following the 2020 presidential election. The messages were discovered among others that Meadows handed over to the House Jan. 6 committee.
The messages show Virginia Thomas urging Meadows to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election.
In one message, she claimed that Joe Biden and the Left are “attempting the greatest Heist of our History.” In another, she implored Donald Trump not to concede to Biden.
“Must be impeached”
One of the first to call for Justice Thomas’ impeachment over the text messages was far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). Now, the Women’s March has joined Omar.
The leftwing group called for Justice Thomas’ impeachment in a statement that it released on Twitter Friday.
“The revelations that Ginni Thomas advocated for the overthrow of our democracy are disqualifying — not just for her as a human being of any decency, but for her husband Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas,” Women’s March executive director Rachel O’ Leary Carmona wrote.
From the day he was nominated to the Court, Thomas has always acted less like a reasonable jurist and more like his wife — that is to say a professional conservative activist. He is hopelessly compromised, conflicted, and corrupt, and he must be impeached IMMEDIATELY.
“Obligated to recuse”
Others on the left, including Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) are calling upon Justice Thomas to recuse himself over the text messages.
In a statement he released, Wyden argued that Justice Thomas “at the bare minimum” ought “to recuse himself from any case related to the January 6th investigation and, should Donald Trump run again, any case related to the 2024 election.”
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) also called for Justice Thomas to consider testifying about the text messages before the House Jan. 6 committee. That committee is said to be currently considering whether to call upon Virginia Thomas to testify.
This is far from the first time that the left has used Virginia Thomas’s career to attack Justice Thomas. In the past, Justice Thomas and his wife have made it clear that they don’t get involved in each others’ work. The Thomas’ have not commented as of yet.
