Former President Donald Trump just got some amazing news.
A rally held by the former president in Alabama last weekend was covered by Newsmax, and the outlet was rewarded by seeing more than 3 million viewers tune in to hear Trump speak.
Viewership through the roof
According to data from Nielsen, which tracks audience numbers across TV and radio, over 3.3 million viewers tuned in to Newsmax for coverage of Trump’s weekend rally. That figure doubles the viewership that the outlet saw for its coverage of Trump’s July rally in Phoenix.
The Nielsen data also revealed that the Newsmax saw roughly 1.7 million viewers on Trump’s Alabama speech on average minute-by-minute.
What these numbers don’t take into account, however, are those who watched the address via streaming services. Newsmax estimates that an additional 2 million did so, meaning more than 5 million tuned in to see Trump’s rally live.
Blowing the competition out of the water
Even these numbers don’t tell the whole story, however. It’s also worth noting how Newsmax did in comparison to competitors like Fox News, which tends to lead the way in cable news viewership.
Notably, Fox didn’t cover Trump’s latest rally. In fact, most in the mainstream media didn’t.
With that being said, Newsmax says it blew the competition out of the water.
In terms of the minute-by-minute average, Fox only pulled 602,000 viewers during Trump’s speech, compared to the more than 1 million pulled by Newsmax. Other competitors only did worse: 476,000 tuned in to CNN during that time, Newsmax reported, and 85,000 watched MSNBC.
“A huge win”
Jason Villar, Newsmax’s vice president of research and analysis, celebrated the numbers. ”This is a huge win for Newsmax,” he said. ”We had a tremendous audience performance.”
According to AL.com, some 45,000 people were said to have attended the event in person. Speaking in Cullman, the former president didn’t shy away from railing against his successor.
“Not only have my predictions [about President Joe Biden] come 100% true, but it’s even worse than any of us could have imagined in our worst nightmare,” Trump said at the rally, according to a transcript from Rev. “Biden has obliterated our border, given up our energy independence, caused soaring inflation. He failed totally on economic and policies.”
