Political strategist Dick Morris just released an article arguing, convincingly, that Hillary Clinton is getting ready to make another presidential run in 2024.
How does he know? Morris writes, “Her weather vane begins to twirl and points to the most advantageous direction for a candidacy. Following her ruminations and political gyrations is as accurate as monitoring polling data.”
Clinton on the need for “careful thinking”
Morris based his argument, largely, on the recent interview that Clinton did with MSNBC”s Willie Geist.
There, Clinton said:
I think that it is a time for some careful thinking about what wins elections, and not just in deep-blue districts where a Democrat and a liberal Democrat, or so-called progressive Democrat, is going to win. I understand why people want to argue for their priorities. That’s what they believe they were elected to do.
“It is triangulation all over again,” Morris said.
His argument is that this comment shows that Clinton realizes that Americans aren’t happy with the so-called progressives and so she is turning back toward the center of her party.
The “blame game . . . has started”
Morris goes on to argue that Clinton took another shot at the progressives by arguing that people want a Congress that can “get things done,” and by arguing that the Democrats need to be “clear-eyed” about what will win in 2022.
Clinton said, “at the end of the day, nothing is going to get done if you don’t have a Democratic majority in the House, in the Senate. And our majority comes from people who win in much more difficult districts, and our majority in the Senate comes from people who can win in not just blue states and hold those wins … but can win in more purplish states.”
Here, Morris argues that Clinton is laying the groundwork for the forthcoming blame game that will take place once Republicans achieve victory in 2022. And, taking the blame will be the progressives.
Morris writes “behind the blame game is a struggle for positioning in the 2024 election if Biden is not running and Harris is crippled.”
He concludes: “It looks like we are in for Hillary 3.0.”
Let’s hope not. But, it certainly is looking more and more likely.
