Michelle Witthoeft, the mother of Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed veteran who was shot dead by police during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, is once again speaking out, this time against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Witthoeft reportedly told The Western Journal that she lays the blame for her daughter’s death at the hands of Speaker Pelosi.
Pelosi “orchestrated” it
To this day, it’s still unknown who killed Babbitt during her involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The identity of the law enforcement officer who shot Babbitt at point-blank range has been kept secret, and there doesn’t seem to be much of a push for details on the tragedy. However, Babbitt’s mother, in her most recent interview, places the blame on Pelosi.
“My daughter was a California constituent, and Nancy Pelosi not only, I feel like, orchestrated the death of my daughter,” Witthoeft said.
Witthoeft revealed that she has tried to contact Pelosi’s office on numerous occasions, but that she has yet to receive a response. Witthoeft believes it’s because Pelosi has been “too busy playing in her clubhouse with all of her elite people.”
“You know, it’s the people’s house,” Witthoeft continued. “It’s not your house, Nancy. It’s the people’s house. That’s my message to Nancy Pelosi.”
Witthoeft added, “the Capitol Police should be held accountable like every other police department in the country” for her daughter’s death.
Legal fights brewing
In April of this year, Babbitt’s family released a statement expressing their intention to bring a lawsuit against the Capitol Police, CNBC noted. The lawsuit will be for “at least $10 million” in damages.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) responded with a statement indicating that prosecutors would not be able to prove Babbit’s case. The statement was released after the DOJ conducted an investigation of the matter.
As previously mentioned, Babbit’s death has received little formal attention. One of the few politicians who has kept the story in the news is former President Donald Trump, who released a recent statement on the matter.
Pelosi and the Democrats have launched a commission to further investigate the events that led to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Trump asked in his statement whether the commission will also investigate “who killed Ashli Babbitt.”
Given the partisan nature of the Jan. 6 commission, it is unlikely that the answer to that question will ever be made public. Rather, it would appear that any justice for Babbitt and her family will have to come from a Republican-led effort and/or the justice system.
