‘We need protests in the streets’: MSNBC contributor calls Barr’s actions ‘immoral,’ ‘unjust’

MSNBC justice correspondent Elie Mystal said on Saturday that federal prosecutors should resign en masse and protest in the streets to get Attorney General William “Bill” Barr removed from his position, the Washington Examiner reported.

Mystal called Barr’s actions to reduce the sentencing recommendation of Trump associate Roger Stone “immoral, illegal, and unjust,” adding that he doesn’t care “what they say.”

Dems shaking their fists

The only reason anyone is upset over Barr’s actions is that President Donald Trump tweeted about the Stone case, making it seem to some like Trump told Barr what to do when he reduced a recommendation of up to nine years in prison for Stone.

Barr, for his part, has “said the president had not asked him to intervene in any cases,” according to a report from the Associated Press.

That hasn’t deterred Democrats from making up their own narrative, however — and using it to go after Barr and Trump. It is a pattern we saw during Robert Mueller’s investigation and Dems’ recent impeachment push, and the left seems to be doubling down.

Not only did Mystal applaud the four prosecutors in the Stone case who resigned after Barr overturned their recommendation, but he called for large numbers of their colleagues to join them.

“There are 5,000 federal prosecutors across 94 offices in this nation. If 2,000 of them resign tomorrow, that would be a thing,” Mystal said.

“We need them to say enough is enough, and we need them to resign,” the MSNBC contributor added, according to the Examiner. “We need protests in the streets. We need to do all that we have left to do, which is to shout and scream and shake our fists against the dying of the light.”

They’re wrong about Barr

But Democrats’ uproar over Barr’s move with regard to Stone is misguided. As Kimberly Strassel wrote in an op-ed for Fox News on Friday, Barr only intervened in the Stone case because interim U.S. Attorney Tim Shea, who is new to the position, bowed to pressure to keep the sentencing recommendation high.

Strassel also reported that Barr’s action was taken without consulting the White House. Trump wasn’t even involved other than to voice his approval of the move.

Democrats don’t really care about the truth, though. If it looks bad and they can use it against Trump, they will do so in a heartbeat.

Right now they are in a fight for their lives, and they need all the help they can get.
