Murderers to walk free in Illinois as state prepares to end cash bail completely

Murderers, kidnapers, and burglars will soon walk free in Illinois, courtesy of the reckless liberal “reformers” who run the state.

Police warn that the “gates are open” once Illinois becomes the first state in the nation to eliminate cash bail completely in January.

Illinois to end cash bail

In typical Orwellian fashion, the state’s Democrat governor, J.B. Pritzker, signed a law called the SAFE-T Act that will make his state’s residents less safe.

The law eliminates cash bail for crimes including second-degree murder, burglary, kidnapping, arson, aggravated battery, and drug offenses. While it may be a win for Black Lives Matter and George Soros, police say the law will make it more difficult to detain dangerous criminals. For many Illinois residents, the impact will be felt immediately.

“Anyone sitting in jail right now with all these pending charges, they’re going to be let out,” Johnson County Sheriff Peter Sopczak said. “The gates are open and they’re going to be let out onto the streets.”

Pritzker says the reform is a “substantial step toward dismantling the systemic racism that plagues our communities,” but even Democratic prosecutors are speaking out against the extreme law. Will County District Attorney Jim Glasgow, a Democrat, said that 60 murderers in his county’s jail will be let go.

“It will destroy the state of Illinois,” he said.

Dems unleash total anarchy

More than half of the inmates in Winnebago County Jail will walk out on New Year’s Day, Winnebago state’s attorney J. Hanely warned in an op-ed laying out some of the new law’s defects.

Under the SAFE-T Act, murderers cannot be held before trial unless prosecutors prove they are a threat to a specific individual or individuals, Hanely said.

“Imagine the defendant who murdered his wife, to whom he no longer poses a threat, being released because of this ridiculously limited legal standard,” Haney wrote.

The law also introduces further steps before a judge is permitted to issue a warrant to force defendants to show up in court.

While Democrats from Joe Biden to Stacey Abrams have been posturing as crime fighters lately, it’s clear Democrats aren’t giving up on their pro-crime agenda. Far from it, Illinois Democrats are dramatically escalating their party’s assault on law and order — the bitter fruits of which are already being witnessed in cities all across the country.
