Musk tweet about Dorsey leaving Twitter board goes viral over euphemistic language

It was revealed this week that Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, who had stepped down as CEO of the social media platform last year, would now also resign his position on its board of directors.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk, who is in the process of attempting to buy Twitter, issued a brief comment on that development with sexually euphemistic language that made his post go instantly viral, the Conservative Brief reported.

Musk said what?

Thursday afternoon, Musk tweeted, “Jack off the board!”

That was immediately followed up with an add-on that read, “(Of Twitter)”

The choice of words Musk used, which are a euphemism for masturbation, were duly noted and referenced in both clever and vulgar ways in the numerous replies to the viral post.

Resignation was planned

NBC News had first reported on Dorsey’s departure from Twitter’s Board of Directors on Wednesday and noted that it had been a planned move that formally severs all of his prior ties to the company he helped found.

Indeed, when Dorsey had announced in November that he had stepped down as CEO of the platform, he had also revealed his intention to step down from the board when his term expired at the company’s 2022 shareholders’ meeting, which was held Wednesday.

The Hill reported Wednesday evening that a spokesperson for Twitter confirmed the news that Dorsey had resigned from the board, and reiterated in a statement, “As we shared back in November, Jack would be leaving the Board when ‘his term expires at the 2022 meeting of stockholders.'”

That outlet further noted that Dorsey has previously been critical of Twitter’s board and has signaled his support for Musk’s proposed acquisition of the platform, as the two are reportedly friends.

Musk and Dorsey are reported to be friendly

That reported friendship was alluded to by Musk in a second follow-up to his initial viral post, in which he wrote, “I’m a fan of Jack btw. Wish he would stay on the board, but I understand that he needs to move on.”

It is unclear what, exactly, Dorsey intends to “move on” to do, but the NBC News report seemed to suggest that he might shift more of his focus to his online payment processor company Block, formerly known as Square, of which Dorsey is CEO, as well as his advocacy in support of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency.
