This past weekend, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made an appearance at the Global Citizen Festival held in New York City’s Central Park. However, it seems that things didn’t go according to plan.
As the Washington Examiner noted, Pelosi was attacked by a loud chorus of boos as soon as she took the stage.
Attendees boo as Pelosi touts legislative achievements
While the House speaker was introduced by actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas to deliver a speech about pollution and climate change, video footage uploaded to Twitter showed her being drowned out by jeering hecklers.

“As speaker of the House, I am here to thank you for your dazzling advocacy, entrepreneurial thinking, and determination as global citizens,” Pelosi declared.
“It’s thanks to your help that the United States recently enacted historic climate legislation, which will be a game changer. It will slash carbon pollution by 40% by 2030; it will give a historic $370 billion to fight the climate crisis,” she added.
The Examiner observed that Pelosi ignored the booing and then went on to mention that her two grandchildren, Paul and Thomas, were present at the event.
Despite the intensely negative reaction by attendees to her presence, Global Citizen made a point of thanking Pelosi in a tweet.
Thank you, @SpeakerPelosi for recognizing Global Citizens all around the world who took action in support of the new, historic climate legislation in the US!

Mariah Carey causes confusion by bringing up 9/11
Pelosi’ booing was not the only bizarre incident at the festival as singer Mariah Carey seemed to cause confusion when she mentioned 9/11.

“No, no, no, no, no, no…well, if you don’t want to hear about 9/11,” Carey said as audience members could be heard expressing confusion to one another.
