Nancy Pelosi is the most unpopular Democrat, new poll says

Nancy Pelosi is no doubt one of the most famous politicians in America, but her notoriety hasn’t made her likable.

A new Republican party poll finds that the House Speaker, 82, is the most unpopular Democrat in the country. Ouch.

Pelosi more unfavorable than Kamala Harris

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) survey, first reported by the Daily Caller, found that 34 percent of voters view Pelosi favorably, compared to 58 percent who view her unfavorably.

When President Biden’s term began, her approval rating was 41 percent and her disapproval rating was 52 percent, meaning her net approval fell by 13 points in just a year. The drop mirrors a collapse in popularity for Democrats in general since Biden came into office.

Pelosi is even more unpopular than Kamala Harris, who has an approval rating of 41 percent, and President Biden, who has an approval rating of 44 percent, according to the survey, taken from March 12 to March 16.

“Nancy Pelosi is the most toxic politician in the country. Every Democrat who has supported her agenda, which is every single one, is in for a rough campaign,” NRCC Spokesman Mike Berg told the Daily Caller.

Pelosi, who has led the Democrats since 2003, consciously embraced the role of an anti-Trump crusader during President Trump’s term — thrilling the liberal base but alienating many others with her divisive theatrics.

Clinging to power

Pelosi has also faced criticism — although kid-gloved — from those further to her left on certain issues, such as her position on stock trading.

It’s an issue that hits home for Pelosi, a multimillionaire and wife of a venture capitalist.

Many suspect that Pelosi accumulated her considerable wealth through insider trading, which would explain her reluctance to ban stock trades by members of Congress.

While reviled by the right, Pelosi is not particularly popular with voters toward the middle either. A February poll found that a majority of voters want her to retire — but Democrats don’t. The poll found that 63 percent of independents, but only 33 percent of Dems, said it was time for Pelosi to resign.

But the career politician has dismissed rumors of retirement, saying in January that she plans to run for re-election in November despite the wishes of the American people, her advanced age, and the likelihood of historic Democratic losses in the midterms.
