National Archives warns of ‘harmful language’ in online copies of Constitution, Declaration

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) describes itself as “the nation’s record keeper,” and is entrusted with preserving America’s most sacred documents. But even that agency isn’t above the “woke” politics that have permeated every part of the Biden administration.

The Daily Wire reported this week that the National Archives has added “trigger warnings” to its digital copies of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, warning that the historical documents may contain “harmful language.”

Emblazoned across the top of webpages containing the text of the documents is a banner reading: “Harmful Language Alert.” The banner links to a statement from the NARA on what it calls “potentially harmful language.”

An “institutional commitment”

The agency doesn’t explain what parts of these documents it considers harmful, but its statement indicates that a document would receive such a label for reflecting “racist, sexist, ableist, misogynistic/misogynoir, and xenophobic opinions and attitudes.”

Also included in the definition are words deemed “discriminatory towards or exclude diverse views on sexuality, gender, religion, and more,” as well as language describing in graphic detail “historical events such as violent death, medical procedures, crime, wars/terrorist acts, natural disasters and more,” or language that is believed to “demonstrate bias and exclusion in institutional collecting and digitization policies.”

According to The Daily Wire, the NARA said its warnings come as part of what it calls an “institutional commitment” to “diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

“NARA’s records span the history of the United States, and it is our charge to preserve and make available these historical records,” the agency said back in July, according to The Daily Wire.

“As a result,” the National Archives added, “some of the materials presented here may reflect outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent views and opinions. In addition, some of the materials may relate to violent or graphic events and are preserved for their historical significance.”

Biden’s America

The agency claims that it is working to alleviate concerns related to graphic or offensive content by “informing users about the presence and origin of harmful content” and even “revising descriptions and standardized sets of descriptive terms, supplementing description with more respectful terms, or creating new standardized terms to describe materials.”

The Daily Wire also cited a Fox News report alleging that the NARA’s racism task force has even considered putting warnings on the physical copies of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence that are on display in the Capitol Rotunda.

Such a course of action was said to be needed in order to protect visitors who might suffer “physiological and psychological symptoms” after viewing the material.

This isn’t satire; this is really what it’s like living in Biden’s America. November 2024 can’t come soon enough.
