New poll finds Americans more concerned over voter fraud than suppression

A Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday revealed more American voters are concerned about voter fraud than voter suppression, despite President Joe Biden referring to new election reform laws as “Jim Crow 2.0.”

When asked, “Which do you think is a bigger problem in U.S. elections: voter fraud or voter suppression?” 47 percent chose fraud, while 46 percent chose suppression. The other seven percent chose they did not know or no answer.

The Breakdown

Along party lines, Republicans were far more likely to select voter fraud as a greater problem, with 85 percent making this selection. In contrast, 84 percent of Democrats chose voter suppression.

Independents were more evenly split, with 47 percent choosing fraud and 46 percent choosing suppression.

In addition, men were more likely to choose fraud than women, with 55 percent of men choosing fraud, compared to only 40 percent of women.

Those with at least a four year college degree were more likely to choose voter suppression, with 60 percent choosing suppression, while only 37 percent of those without a four year degree made the same choice.

The poll of more than 1,200 people between July 27 to Aug. 2, had a margin of sampling error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.

Other Issues

The poll also highlighted other political issues of note. According to the press release with the poll, “President Biden gets a mixed job approval rating, with 46 percent of Americans approving and 43 percent disapproving. This compares to a positive 49 – 41 percent job approval in May. ”

Regarding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Jan. 6 committee, “Americans support, 63 – 32 percent, the Congressional investigation of the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. Democrats support the investigation 91 – 8 percent, and independents support it 64 – 30 percent. Republicans oppose it 63 – 29 percent.”

The study revealed the great divide between parties and the nation. However, overall totals continue to show voter fraud remains a great concern than suppression.
