Report: New polls show Trump closing the gap in Wisconsin

In 2016, Donald Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate to win Wisconsin since 1984, according to Wisconsin Public Radio. Now, new polling data suggests that he may be on track to win there again.

Breitbart reported Thursday that a poll of likely Wisconsin voters showed President Trump leading former Vice President Joe Biden by one percentage point. It seems Biden has fallen from grace in the Badger State, where he had a six-point advantage just weeks ago, as CBS News reported

Published by the Trafalgar Group, the new survey cited by Breitbart was conducted between Aug. 14 and Aug. 23 — just before the wave of rioting broke out in Kenosha this week.

Biden’s slipping lead

Breitbart also pointed to a poll from CNBC/Change Research conducted from Aug. 21 to Aug. 23, which found that Biden was five points ahead of Trump in Wisconsin. A previous CNBC/Change Research poll had the Democratic nominee leading by an eight-point margin in the state as recently as June.

The website RealClearPolitics compiles a polling average, and it still has Biden beating his Republican rival by 3.5 points in Wisconsin, Breitbart noted. However, that margin has also shrunk; Biden was reported to hold a 6.5-point advantage over Trump in the state on Aug. 12.

Could this be a sign of an impending collapse for Uncle Joe?

“It’s showing up in the polling”

According to CNN’s Don Lemon, things certainly aren’t looking good following a week of violent unrest in Kenosha that began after a 29-year-old Black man was shot by police.

Fox News reported that a law enforcement officer was struck in the head with a brick in Kenosha on Sunday night while he and other officers were being confronted by an angry mob protesting alleged police brutality.

In another incident, an elderly store owner was attacked while he attempted to put out a fire at his mattress business. Local news outlet Fox 6 reported that the man sustained a broken jaw and lacerations to his head.

Lemon, for his part, warned Tuesday that Democrats may want to finally denounce the violence — after all, he said, it’s now showing up in the polls.

“It’s showing up in the polling,” the CNN host said, according to The Hill. “It’s showing up in focus groups. It is the only thing right now that is sticking. The riots and the protests have become indistinguishable.

“I think this is a blind spot for Democrats,” Lemon added. “I think Democrats are ignoring this problem or hoping that it will go away, and it’s not going to go away.”
