New text messages show GOP Rep. Mace denouncing Trump following 1/6 protest

It turns out that Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) might not be as pro-Trump as she claims to be.

According to Breitbart News, newly-released text messages show Mace attacking former President Donald Trump following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protest.

The text messages were obtained by Breitbart News. They are said to have been leaked by “a former supporter” of Mace.

The text messages are reported to have been exchanged between Mace and this “former supporter” following the Jan. 6 Capitol protest. Images of the actual messages were not provided by Breitbart. The outlet simply reported the contents.

“Words have consequences”

Breitbart reports Mace as saying in the text messages that she “will never forgive” Trump for what happened at the Capitol in January 2021.

“My life was threatened because of the words and actions of the President. Words have consequences,” Mace reportedly wrote. “I cannot explain or excuse the violent attack on our Capitol… I had to walk through a crime scene to vote last night.”

Mace went on to call this “unacceptable” and “indefensible.” And, she made it clear that she was placing the blame directly onto Trump as well as some of her other fellow congressional Republicans.

She reportedly wrote that the 2021 Capitol protest occurred “because of the rhetoric [Trump] and some of my Republican colleagues were using in the days leading up to this event.”

This is not exactly out of line for Mace. In fact, following the Jan. 6 protest, Mace went on national television and used this same line of having to walk through a “crime scene.” She also spoke out against those Republican members of Congress who, after the protest, chose not to certify the 2020 presidential election.

Trump, in response, labeled Mace a “sellout.” And, since then, Trump decided to back Mace’s primary challenger, Katie Arrington.

Mace, for her part, has continued to claim, at least publicly, to be a supporter of Trump. She, in fact, even traveled to New York City earlier this year to record a campaign message in front of Trump Tower to prove this.

It remains to be seen how voters will respond to Mace’s badmouthing of Trump. Her political career might just be in jeopardy.
