New York AG subpoenas Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Don Trump Jr.

The left took a new step in pursuing former President Donald Trump — and his children — by issuing subpoenas to Trump and two of his adult children regarding an ongoing investigation into the Trump Organization.

According to the Washington Examiner, New York Attorney General Letitia James (D), issued the subpoenas last week, but they were made public on Monday. The subpoenas request an audience with the former president, Ivanka Trump, and Donald Trump Jr.

The subpoenas come only two weeks after the former president’s legal team filed to quash the investigation, citing their argument that James is “guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent.”

The former president has long argued that investigations into his business, which are almost solely led by Democrats or Democrat-connected prosecutors, are nothing more than political witch hunts.

The investigation

According to court filings, the subpoenas were issued “in connection with an investigation into the valuation of properties owned or controlled by Trump and his company, the Trump Organization.”

James apparently went all out in the issuance of the subpoenas, as the filing detailed the rules and options available to Trump and his two adult children.

“OAG (attorney general) will oppose any motion to quash or for related relief within 14 days of the filing of the motion,” the filing stated.

It added: “OAG will file any cross motion to enforce its Subpoenas to the Individual Trump Parties, and will file any necessary amendments to the pleadings, simultaneously with the filing of any opposition to the motion to quash.”

What’s it about?

According to The New York Times, the investigation seeks to determine whether or not the former president inflated the value of his assets to secure larger loans from banks, and also if he underreported those assets on his taxes.

It should be noted that James’ investigation, however, is a civil investigation and not criminal. It’s essentially only going to tie up Trump’s lawyers, but not result in criminal actions.

At worst, should James find what she’s looking for, she’s limited to filing a civil lawsuit.

While anti-Trump Democrats continue to hang on to every word of a news report that mentions the words “subpoena” and “Trump, this investigation is nothing more than a legal bill and some paperwork for the 45th president.
