New York congressman calls for Bill de Blasio’s resignation: Report

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has long faced criticism from those on the right — but his actions over the last several weeks have left members of the GOP simply outraged.

Now, a congressman from de Blasio’s home state is calling for the mayor’s resignation. According to Breitbart, New York Rep. Lee Zeldin (R) said Thursday that the Big Apple needs someone new at the helm who can give “the city an opportunity to flourish once again.”

“That actually happened”

Zeldin’s demand for de Blasio’s ouster came after the New York City mayor gave his stamp of approval to a proposal to cut the New York City Police Department (NYPD) budget by roughly $1 billion. The department previously operated on $6 billion each year, The New York Times reported.

The move to cut funding from New York’s finest came as the city continues to be rocked by angry protests that have in many cases turned into riots featuring destructive vandalism and widespread looting.

“We’ve seen, over the course of the last few months, this deterioration going on in New York City, where all sorts of crime rates are going up,” Zeldin explained to Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday, according to Breitbart.

“Remember, this year started with the implementation of cashless bail,” the congressman continued. “You could rob a bank in New York City, be detained, be released that same day, look up at the sky with a big smile on your face because you can’t believe you’ve been freed, and then go out and rob another bank.

“And by the way, that’s not some hypothetical. That actually happened,” Zeldin added.

“They want law and order”

Now, de Blasio is only contributing to the continued lawlessness, according to Zeldin. “Fast forward to now, where you have the mayor signing off on this movement to defund the police, and New York City council members signing off on this movement,” the congressman said, according to Breitbart.

“The average person who lives in New York City wants safety and security. They want law and order. They want their city to be free and to prosper and to have opportunity,” he continued, as Breitbart reported. “They want their kids to be able to grow there. And people who live in the area want to be able to go visit and enjoy the city. And everything is going in the wrong direction.”

The only way to fix it? According to Zeldin, “the mayor needs to resign.”

“And this city, similarly to when David Dinkins [D] left and Rudy Giuliani [R] came in the early ’90s — you need someone else to come in and respect our cops, respect our law and order, and to give the city an opportunity to flourish once again,” Zeldin concluded, according to Breitbart.
