Gov. Newsom leaves California for book tour amid ongoing crime wave

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom has built an image as an out-of-touch elected official — and his recent actions amid a statewide crime wave only reinforced that reputation.

According to reports, Newsom recently left the state to plug a new children’s book about dyslexia.

“I’m dealing with this every day”

Meanwhile, residents in various parts of California live in fear of rampant property crimes and violent attacks amid Democratic efforts to decriminalize certain unlawful activities.

Newsom’s book is called Ben & Emma’s Big Hit and reportedly draws from his personal experiences with the learning disorder.

“It doesn’t go away,” the governor told reporters. “I’m dealing with this every day.”

Californians are dealing with a rising crime rate every day and many store owners have resorted to installing security gates as a way to keep out bands of looters that have become a common sight in the state. Some businesses have simply conceded defeat and closed entirely.

In recent weeks, thieves have made off with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from stores in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

“People who need to be behind bars”

While some looting had been reported during the riots that broke out after George Floyd’s death last year, a prevalent soft-on-crime agenda in much of the state has been blamed by critics for exacerbating the situation.

Reports indicate 14 suspects linked to a combined $340,000 in stolen property have all been released from jail.

The problem has gotten so bad that some leftist Democrats in the state are starting to call for a change. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, for example, asserted that there are “people who need to be behind bars” in connection with the recent rash of property crimes.

Newsom has also apparently had enough, declaring that the thefts “are not victimless crimes” and that he has “no empathy” for the perpetrators. He has expressed frustration with local prosecutors for failing to take a sufficiently tough approach.

For his part, former President Donald Trump has also weighed in on the disturbing developments, insisting: “If Democrats don’t immediately stop smash-and-grab robberies, which are taking place in their cities, the National Guard must be called out.”
