It has been just over a year since a now-infamous riot broke out on Capitol Hill that Democrats have repeatedly called an “insurrection.”
Despite even President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris regularly using the term, however, no one is actually facing charges for “insurrection” over the January 2021 unrest, according to a new report from Newsmax.
Post Millennial contributor Hannah Nightingale first reported on the development in an article published Thursday. In it, she referenced a breakdown of charges released by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
“A day of insurrection”
The document shows that some 725 people have been indicted following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot for various felony and misdemeanor offenses ranging from assaults to entering a restricted building.
However, not a single individual has thus far been charged with insurrection — or “sedition” or “treason,” other terms often bandied about by Democrats.
That didn’t stop the president from once again using the word during a speech he gave this week marking the one-year anniversary of the riot.
“Former presidential supporters are trying to rewrite history,” Biden complained Thursday, according to Nightingale.
“They want you to see Election Day as the day of insurrection and the riot that took place here on January 6 as the true expression of the people,” the president added.
CNN takes on Fox
Members of the media have routinely characterized the events of Jan. 6 as an insurrection, as well, with the notable exception of Fox News hosts.
CNN contributor Oliver Darcy pointed that out in a tweet on Thursday, writing: “The word ‘insurrection’ has not been uttered once during coverage of 1/6 on Fox this morning, other than Biden using it during his speech which the network aired, per search of show transcripts.”
The comment brought a sharp response from author and columnist Glenn Greenwald, who tweeted, “So Fox has uttered ‘Insurrection’ the same number of times as the DOJ has issued indictments for that crime.”
He added: “Referring to 1/6 as an ‘Insurrection’ when the Democrat-led DOJ has failed to charge *even a single person with that crime* is not a source of pride for a media outlet.”
