‘Not at risk of exposure’: Spokesperson says Kamala Harris won’t quarantine after meeting with Texas lawmakers

With its increasingly aggressive, borderline authoritarian vaccine campaign, the Biden administration may appear to be deadly serious about the coronavirus — but the White House does not seem alarmed after Kamala Harris met with a gaggle of infectious Texas Democrats.

The vice president will not be forced to quarantine despite the risk of exposure, her spokesperson confirmed Saturday, according to Breitbart.

Not in close contact

According to Symone Sanders, Harris does not need to quarantine or get tested for COVID-19 after “it was determined the Vice President and her staff present at the meeting were not at risk of exposure because they were not in close contact with those who tested positive.”

The messaging is a stark contrast with the White House’s usual rhetoric, which has sought to amplify the so-called delta variant while emphasizing that the pandemic is not over yet.

Harris heaped praise on the group at a meeting last week, comparing them to civil rights leaders of the past after they absconded to Washington in an attempt to block an election integrity bill.  Then, in an embarrassing twist, five members of the group tested positive for COVID-19 this weekend, Fox News reported.

According to Breitbart, at least two of those lawmakers were at last Tuesday’s meeting with Harris, who later appeared with President Biden on Wednesday and Thursday.

Adding to the unfortunate optics of the situation, the Democrats had previously been criticized as hypocritical after they photographed themselves not wearing masks on their private jet to Washington.

WH seeks to downplay incident

It appears that the White House, in a break from its ordinary posture of maximum alarm on anything concerning coronavirus, is trying to downplay the mishap.

The White House said that Harris would receive a “routine” check-up at Walter Reed Medical Center on Sunday that they said had nothing to do with her exposure to the infected lawmakers.

Although Sanders emphasized that Harris and her staff “are fully vaccinated,” the five Texas Democrats who came down with the virus are all vaccinated, as well.

This looks to be a face-saving maneuver for the White House’s benefit as it seeks to turn up the pressure on Americans who have refused the vaccine. It would certainly make headlines if Harris were to test positive despite being vaccinated, after meeting with other vaccinated Democrats.

The administration recently announced it will begin sending people door to door to push the shot and even shared, in a stunning admission, that they are censoring “misinformation” on Facebook.
