According to Breitbart, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) believes that the latest indictment to come from Special Counsel John Durham in his investigation of the infamous Trump–Russia collussion hoax could be the first of many to come as he uncovers a “larger conspiracy” that may even implicate Hillary Clinton.
In case you missed it, Durham recently indicted Michael Sussmann, a lawyer for the Democratic Party who worked with the Clinton campaign in 2016 as a lawyer from the Dem-aligned law firm Perkins Coie. Sussmann is alleged to have lied to the FBI, and recently resigned from the law firm.
He is believed to have perjured himself when he met with the FBI to relay information that he claimed proved Trump was colluding with the Russians.
In the process, Sussmann also claimed — and continues to claim — that he was not working for Clinton’s presidential campaign, when he actually was.
Speaking with Breitbart, Nunes said he is “cautiously optimistic” about Durham’s probe after Sussmann was hit with charges.
“In this case, it is a quintessential definition of an indictment of lying to the FBI that I think is really a slam dunk,” Nunes said. “And now the question becomes, can Durham get the next set of charges, which would be the larger conspiracy?”
“No one believes that Sussmann and all these cats at the FBI and the Clinton campaign…didn’t know about this, right?” the Republican congressman added.
Still, Nunes said he is worried that several obstacles may stand in Durham’s way, including the fact that the Democrats are in control of the government and Attorney General Merrick Garland is the head of the Department of Justice (DOJ). Nunes described Garland as “very dangerous” and as “a hack for the Obama–Biden–Harris team.”
More indictments coming?
In the meantime, many others are similarly arguing that Durham’s recent indictment of Sussman is a sign of more to come.
Among them is Kash Patel, the former national security official for the Trump administration. “For me, I think the 27-page indictment is the biggest signal that more is coming,” Patel said of the charges, according to Breitbart, “because when you issue an indictment for lying to the FBI, like they did with Sussmann, it’s two to five pages max. It’s unheard of to be 27 pages.”
But it’s not just the length of the indictment. Patel noted that the information within the nearly 30-page charge is far more detailed than needed. “It is a very well laid-out conspiracy charge that outlines other figures involved,” Patel said, according to reports.
Patel argued that “Sussmann is the centerpiece for these allegations because he ties the Hillary Clinton campaign to Fusion GPS to Christopher Steele to the Department of Justice and the false information they fed to the FBI and DOJ to spy on the presidential campaign.” We can only hope more to see more accountability stem from Durham’s probe in the weeks to come.
