Barack Obama stepped out of retirement on Tuesday to make a push for gun control after a tragic school shooting in Texas.
Recalling the demagoguery of his presidency, Obama blamed the violence on Republicans and the “gun lobby” Breitbart reported.
Obama pushes for gun control
A lone shooter, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, gunned down at least 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
It was the deadliest school shooting since the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012 that Obama tried, and failed, to capitalize on to enact so-called “common sense” gun control, in one of the sobering defeats of his presidency.
Looking back on Sandy Hook, Obama blamed Republicans and the “gun lobby” for Congress’s failure to enact gun control.
Keeping things nice and vague, Obama called for the government to take “action, any kind of action” and said that grieving families cannot “wait another day.”
“Nearly 10 years after Sandy Hook — and 10 days after Buffalo — our country is paralyzed, not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party that have shown no willingness to act in any way that might help prevent these tragedies,” he said.
Biden, Dems exploit tragedy
Obama’s rhetoric echoed that of President Biden, who made use of similar emotional appeals in a speech calling for so-called “common sense gun laws.” Those “common sense” restrictions include a ban on “assault weapons,” Biden made clear, as he mocked those opposed to gun control as paranoid and irrational.
“What in God’s name do you need an ‘assault weapon’ for except to kill someone? Deer aren’t running through the forest with Kevlar vests on, for God’s sake.”
Biden offered a prayer for the bereaved families before immediately pivoting to a political attack on the “gun lobby,” saying it’s time to find the “backbone” to turn “pain into action.”
Except the “gun lobby” didn’t convince millions of law-abiding gun owners that Democrats want to disenfranchise them: Democrats did that.
Obama and Biden didn’t even stop to condemn the monster actually responsible for the carnage in Texas. Their first instinct was to exploit tragedy to push an agenda, like they always do. It’s just so predictable.
