Michelle Obama releases video urging voter participation in upcoming election

Former first lady Michelle Obama made an appeal to Americans Sunday in a video message, urging them to register and vote in the upcoming election, an event that is now fewer than 100 days away, as BET reported.

“With everything that’s been going on this year, this election could not be more important for the future of our country,” Obama said in the message, which was released by When We All Vote, a voter mobilization political action committee that she co-chairs.

Although the organization claims to be non-partisan, it has advocated digital voter registration and mail-in voting, initiatives many Republicans oppose due to concerns that they open the door to widespread election fraud.

Obama helps target liberal voters

Most of the other co-chairs of the Obama-affiliated group are elite Hollywood liberals including Lin-Manuel Miranda and husband-and-wife duo Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks. Outspoken progressive women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe is also among the organization’s named leaders.

The organization is specifically targeting young people ahead of this year’s election and made a point of noting that 15 million Americans have turned the legal voting age of 18 since 2016.

The group even conducts outreach toward school-age children who are too young to vote now, encouraging them to remind eligible potential voters in their lives to register and cast their ballots.

Advocacy, not candidacy

While Mrs. Obama has lent her voice to the aforementioned voter registration efforts, she has deliberately and adamantly resisted entering politics herself despite calls from many in the Democratic Party to do so.

Presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden expressed his personal wish that Obama would agree to be his running mate, but she let it be known to those in her circle that she has no interest in being considered for the job.

“She’s not demurring here. She’s not being hard to get. She doesn’t want the job,” friend and close Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett said in April, according to the New York Post.

The fact of the matter is that if Mrs. Obama did want to run for office, she would surely have bypassed Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and simply run for president herself, and she would have most likely succeeded.

Obama is extremely popular among Democrats. as evidenced by her top-selling memoir, Becoming, and her tour appearances with media mogul Oprah Winfrey. She has a multi-million dollar mansion in Washington, D.C. and one on Martha’s Vineyard, and she clearly enjoys hobnobbing with celebrities and taking vacations without journalists picking apart her every move.

Furthermore, she and former President Barack Obama landed a multi-million dollar deal to produce content for Netflix, something which gives her a chance to join the Hollywood elite in her own right. Most would agree that she would be crazy to abandon all of that for the nasty morass that is our current American political scene.
