This can’t be sitting too well with former President Barack Obama.
Malik Obama, Barack Obama’s older half-brother, just announced his endorsement of a Trump-backed candidate.
“I’m with . . .”
That Trump-backed candidate whom Malik Obama announced his support for is Doug Mastriano, the Republican who represents Pennsylvania’s 33rd District in the state’s senate.
Mastriano is facing off against Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro (D) in the race for the state’s governorship. The polls would suggest that Mastriano is significantly trailing his Democratic opponent – by double digits – but some new data suggests that Mastriano might still have a chance.
Mastriano does have the support of former President Donald Trump. In May, Trump announced his endorsement of Mastriano through his Save America PAC, writing:
There is no one in Pennsylvania who has done more, or fought harder, for Election Integrity than State Senator Doug Mastriano . . . He will also Fight Violent Crime, Strengthen our Borders, Protect Life, Defend our under-siege Second Amendment, and Help our Military and our Vets. He is a fighter like few others, and has been with me right from the beginning, and now I have an obligation to be with him.
Now, Malik Obama is also backing Mastriano. Why? Because of Mastriano’s association with Trump.
“If he’s with President Trump then I’m with @dougmastriano Pennsylvania Senator PA District 33,” Obama tweeted on Sunday.
It’s not the first time
For those familiar with Malik Obama, this might not come as much of a surprise.
In 2016, Obama announced that, in that year’s presidential race between Trump and Hillary Clinton, he would be voting for Trump.
“I am back in the US and will be voting for Mr. Trump early next week in Maryland,” Malik Obama wrote in an op-ed at the time.
In that op-ed, Obama briefly explained his decision to vote for Trump. After calling Barack Obama “a big disappointment” – and explaining why – Malik Obama wrote, “Hillary Clinton is a liar and totally corrupt . . . Mr. Trump is a successful businessman. He will make America great again. He is not heartless.”
So, it isn’t that big of a surprise that Malik Obama is sticking with Trump and Trump-backed candidates. Still, though, this has to really irk Barack Obama.
