Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has gained a considerable following within the Democratic Party since she was elected to Congress in 2018.
While there has been speculation that she may have ambitions to eventually take Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) seat, she also seems to have other targets in mind. Ocasio-Cortez is now demanding that that Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) resign from their Senate seats, The Daily Wire reported.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is apparently also on “the Squad” leader’s hit list, too.
“What we saw last week was not just a violent coup attempt, but we also saw a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of our country and a betrayal of the oath that we swear,” Ocasio Cortez said in a video statement, according to The Daily Wire.
Her comment was in reference to the riot at the Capitol earlier this month, as well as efforts by Cruz and Hawley to raise questions about election integrity.
“That is why I have demanded the resignations of senators Ted Cruz, senators Josh Hawley, Majority Leader, Republican Major — rather, Republican Minority Leader in the House McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, along with many others, because this is not just about political opinion or partisanship,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “This was about the abandonment of our sworn oath.”
All of the individuals who Ocasio-Cortez mentioned have explicitly condemned the unrest at the Capitol building earlier this month.
Conservative media also a target
As The Daily Wire noted, Ocasio-Cortez’s calls for the ouster of her political rivals comes on the heels of a disturbing demand that efforts be made to “rein in” media outlets that she disagrees with.
When asked during an Instagram live stream if there was “discussion in Congress about federal truth and reconciliation or media literacy initiatives to help with healing,” the representative confirmed that plans were in the works.
Ocasio-Cortez said that “several members of Congress in some of my discussions have brought up media literacy because that is a part of what happened here and we’re going to have to figure out how we rein in our media environment so that you can’t just spew disinformation and misinformation.”
“It’s one thing to have differing opinions but it’s another thing entirely to just say things that are false and so that’s something that we’re looking into,” she added.
