Fox News reports that Olivia Newton-John, the well-known actress and singer, has died at the age of 73.
Newton-John’s death was announced on her Facebook page.
“Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” the post reads. “We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
The cause of Newton-John’s death was not provided. But, it is known that Newton-John had been fighting against breast cancer for over three decades.
Newton-John’s initial success came in the 1970s. Several of her songs became big hits, including If Not for You, Let Me Be There, and Have You Never Been Mellow.
But, most probably associate Newton-John with to movie Grease, where she starred as Sandy alongside John Travolta’s character. The reader may remember such songs from the movie as Summer Nights and You’re the One that I Want.
Grease took Newton-John’s career to a new level. Subsequently, she scored roles in other movies, including Xanadu. She also sang Physical, which was her biggest hit. It stayed at the number one spot for 10 straight weeks, which broke previously-held records.
Outside of acting and singing, Newton-John was an advocate for the environment and animals. She also funded research for plant medicine.
Countless tributes to Newton-John have been posted to social media following the news of her passing. One of the most touching tributes came from her daughter, Chloe Lattanzi.
Lattanzi wrote, “I worship this woman. My mother. My best friend.”
Another touching tribute came from Newton-John’s Grease co-star, John Travolta. He wrote:
My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!
In the aforementioned Facebook post, it is written that Newton-John “is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.”
