Orlando asks ‘why on Earth’ America should be celebrated on July 4th

It has become a tradition of sorts for disgruntled leftists to spend the July 4th holiday complaining about the United States and the noble men who founded this great nation.

The city of Orlando, which is run by Democrats, let the mask slip on the party’s true sentiments in a tone-deaf statement asking “why on Earth” America’s independence should be celebrated.

“Why on Earth”

Orlando mentioned “division, hate, and unrest” as reasons not to celebrate the Founders’ successful revolution against tyranny.

“A lot of people probably don’t want to celebrate our nation right now, and we can’t blame them. When there is so much division, hate and unrest, why on earth would you want to have a party celebrating any of it?”

The post added, “Yes, America is in strife right now, but you know what … we already bought the fireworks.”

The city of Orlando later acknowledged the city “sincerely regrets the negative impact our words have had on some in our community.” But a Democratic state legislator, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani, urged the city not to back down.

“Y’all do not need to apologize — your first email captured the tone of how many Americans (and Orlandoans) are feeling right now. It’s ok not to be ok.”

Left’s anti-Americanism

Democrats in Arizona’s Pima County promoted an “F**k the Fourth” pro-abortion protest organized in response to the Supreme Court ending the constitutional “right” to an abortion. Is that the “liberty” the Founders fought for? The right of women to have abortions on demand?

The left is so out of touch with this nation and its ideals, that it’s almost comical.

Contrast the dour cynicism of the left with John Adams’ joyful reflections on the “great anniversary Festival” in a July 3, 1776, letter to his wife Abigail, in which he acknowledged the “Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States”:

I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. — I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. — Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.

Leftist rag Reuters informed their readers that the Declaration of Independence was signed by “only white men,” many of whom were slaveowners.

Those “white men” pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor when they declared the United States free and independent. Their heroic deeds are worthy of unreserved admiration — a feeling totally foreign to resentful haters on the left.
