House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has a history of insisting on COVID restrictions for her constituents while ignoring those same precautions when it’s beneficial to her.
As Breitbart reported, citing congressional reporter John Bresnahan, Pelosi’s hypocritical behavior was on display again this week when she permitted Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) to attend the speakership election on Sunday to cast a vote for Pelosi, despite Moore having tested positive for the coronavirus only six days before.
This clearly broke COVID restrictions as the CDC guidelines state that “individuals who test positive for COVID-19 or are exposed to it should quarantine for 7-10 days.”
Pelosi “desperate” to keep power
Pelosi did ultimately hold onto the House speaker position, although she won another term a by a margin of just 7 votes, USA Today reported.
Rep. Marjorie Greene (R-GA) pointed out Pelosi’s hypocrisy in a tweet Sunday: “@SpeakerPelosi changed the COVID rules because she is desperate to cling to the gavel.”
“No one can attack me about masks, when Pelosi is sending Democrats to the floor with positive COVID tests to vote for her for Speaker,” the Georgia representative added.
Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AK) also weighed in, writing in a tweet Sunday, “Looks like [Pelosi’s] proxy voting and remote hearing measures are only essential when her leadership position isn’t on the line.”
Pelosi saving face
Perhaps in an effort to salvage her image, Pelosi sent out a letter on Monday reminding members to abide by coronavirus-related guidelines, Fox News reported.
“The chair would like to remind members that the chair has authority and responsibility to preserve order and decorum in the chamber … to that end, the chair reminds all members that as a matter of decorum they are required to wear masks at all times in the halls of the house even while under recognition,” the letter stated.
“In addition, members must practice proper social distancing and should not linger in the chamber after casting their votes,” Pelosi wrote.
This is not the first time Pelosi has flouted the rules when it suits her. In the fall, footage showed the speaker without a mask getting her hair done inside a San Francisco beauty salon, while hair salons were closed to the public.
Rather than issue an apology, Pelosi demanded one from the salon’s owner for an alleged “set up.”
