A woman claiming to be Paul Pelosi attacker David DePape’s stepdaughter has come forward to say that he sexually and physically abused her and her siblings when they were very young.
DePape allegedly attacked Pelosi with a hammer, putting him in the hospital, after breaking into the Pelosi family home early Friday morning.
Inti Gonzalez, now 24, made the revelation on Facebook. She said DePape “genuinely [tried] to be a good person but the monster in him was always too strong for him to be safe to be around.”
Gonzalez said she loved DePape and that he himself suffered abuse as a child.
Unexpected attack
She also said that her mother reported the abuse to the authorities, but that the police didn’t handle it well and nothing was ultimately done to punish him.
Gonzalez said she would not have seen the attack on Pelosi coming.
“This attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband came as a shock to me, though not much considering the kind of extreme abuse he had inflicted on me and my brothers.” she said. “I didn’t see this coming and there was no sign of the possibility from his end.”
Other reports about DePape said that he left behind a manifesto filled with conspiracy theories when he was arrested.
While he espoused some views of QAnon and other far-right extremist theories, he also had been a nudist who protested nude and lived with another male nudist and had children in the home.
“Consumed by darkness”
Gonzalez was aware of his views but did not agree with all of them, she said.
“It made me happy to see that he had strong opinions about important issues that our world is facing today,” Gonzalez wrote. “He wanted to make a difference.”
“There is some part of him that is a good person even though he has been very consumed by darkness,” she concluded.
