Pelosi dismisses Biden sexual assault claim as a ‘closed issue’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) doesn’t want to talk about Tara Reade anymore.

The Democrat put her foot down with regard to Reade’s sexual assault allegation against Joe Biden, declaring it a “closed issue” before any inquiry has even taken place, the Washington Examiner reported. So much for #MeToo.

Pelosi: Reade claim a “closed issue”

The Democratic Party has struggled to respond to Reade’s claim that Biden sexually assaulted her back in 1993 when she worked for him as a Senate aide. Biden has denied the charge, and for the most part his fellow Dems, and their media allies, have cynically stood by him, breaking with their own “believe women” rule.

Pelosi, who formally endorsed Biden last week, has made no secret of her displeasure with the scandal. Asked by MSNBC’s Ari Melber whether she considered the case a “closed issue” (how’s that for a softball?), Pelosi said that she does — for the last time — believe Biden, and she had better not hear any more about it.

“Well, it is [a closed issue] for me,” Pelosi said, according to the Examiner. She went on:

I have said I am proud to support Joe Biden for president. I believe him when he says it didn’t happen. But I also believe it when he says, ‘Let them look into the records.’ And that’s what they should do. But I’m not going to answer this question again.

According to Fox News, Pelosi has said before that she is “satisfied” with Biden’s denials, and she appears to be running out of patience with the inquiries about Reade. When Pelosi was asked by a Washington Examiner reporter last week whether she was going by a double standard in handling Biden’s case and Brett Kavanaugh’s, she snapped.

“I respect your question, and I don’t need a lecture or a speech,” she told the outlet. “I have a complete respect for the whole #MeToo movement,” Pelosi added. “I have four daughters and one son. And there’s a lot of excitement around the idea that women will be heard and be able to be listened to.”

Dems’ hypocrisy exposed

As Pelosi’s tortured answer shows, her party’s defense of Biden has raised significant speculation that it is damaging the #MeToo movement.

A self-appointed advocate for women, Pelosi was an eager participant in the left’s character assassination of Brett Kavanaugh back in 2018, declaring that the now-Supreme Court justice’s accusers needed to be automatically believed on principle.

But like her fellow party hacks, the Democrat has been exposed as a hypocrite who only cares about power. Whereas before, “believe women” meant believe automatically, Pelosi and her fellow Dems have now created a new, convenient rule of thumb.

“Just because you’re a survivor doesn’t mean that every claim is equal,” said Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D), who is said to be in the running to become Biden’s running mate. “It means we give them the ability to make their case. And then to make a judgment that is informed.”

Got that, Republicans? Principles are for losers.
