Pelosi loses cool when asked about Trump role in next coronavirus relief bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) lost her cool on television this past Friday.

According to Fox News, Pelosi snapped at an anchor who asked about President Donald Trump’s involvement in what is expected to be the next round of coronavirus relief legislation.

Democrats eye additional relief

The incident took place during an interview that Pelosi did with Steve Scully of C-SPAN.

The House, led by Pelosi, is currently looking to pass another multitrillion-dollar coronavirus relief package — the fifth of its kind. Fox News reports that Democrats hope that “the centerpiece…will be funding for state and local governments” whose “tax revenues have dried up during the pandemic.”

Unlike the first four relief measures, however, Republicans, including Trump, are not quite on board, especially given that some of the relief money already appropriated has not even yet been distributed. “We’re in no rush,” the president said on Friday about the possibility of additional legislation.

Pelosi gets testy

With this apparent disagreement going on in the background, Scully asked Pelosi whether the president has been taking an active role in such talks.

“I don’t have any idea what the president does,” Pelosi fired back.

“He said that the House is on vacation,” Scully replied, not content to let the issue go just yet. And that’s when Pelosi just snapped.

“You know what — don’t waste your time or mine on what he says,” a clearly agitated Pelosi said. “We are trying to get a job done for the American people in a way that brings people together. We certainly have our differences of opinion. We have a strong agreement that we have a responsibility to meet the needs of the American people.”

Return date uncertain

Scully’s vacation comment referred to the fact that Trump has been on Pelosi’s case for not reconvening the House of Representatives amid the ongoing pandemic, a sentiment that has also been loudly echoed by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). As Fox News reported, the president tweeted back in mid-April:

Today people started losing their jobs because of Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, and the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats, who should immediately come back to Washington and approve legislation to help families in America. End your ENDLESS VACATION!

Pelosi, of course, has cited concerns about the coronavirus and its potential threat to members of Congress, but the Senate, which has already reconvened, seems to be getting on just fine. There are, at last, some reports that the House may come back into session this week, but we’ll have to wait and see.
