Trump: Pelosi and Schiff must appear as witnesses in Senate trial

For over 3 weeks, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refused to send articles of impeachment to the Senate, before finally relenting on Friday. While that was an effort to get Senate Republicans to reach an agreement on calling witnesses, President Trump responded that if anyone should be testifying, it’s the House Speaker herself.

“Why did Nervous Nancy allow corrupt politician Shifty Schiff to lie before Congress?” Trump tweeted on Sunday, making reference to Pelosi and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA).

“He must be a Witness,” the president continued, “and so should she!”

President claims attempts to unseat him are “unfair”

In another tweet he demanded to know, “Why should I have the stigma of Impeachment attached to my name when I did NOTHING wrong?” and denounced the attempt to remove him as a “partisan hoax” that has “never happened before and was “very unfair to tens of millions of voters!”

“House Republicans voted 195-0, with three Dems voting with the Republicans,” Trump complained.

That came just before Pelosi appeared on an episode of ABC’s “This Week” during which she talked about impeachment efforts.

“It’s about a fair trial,” the California Democrat insisted. “We’ve done our job. We have defended the Constitution of the United States. We would hope the Senate would do that as well.”

“Now the ball is in their court to either do that or pay a price,” Pelosi warned. However, it’s not clear what price she is referring to, as polls now show that most Americans do not support removing Trump from office.

“He will be acquitted”

It’s widely believed that there is no chance that the Republican-controlled Senate will vote to convict the president, something that South Carolina’s Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) talked to Fox News about.

“The Senate should not reward this behavior by the House,” the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman said on Sunday.

“The Senate should end this trial as quickly as possible,” Graham added. “That’s what I intend to do. He will be acquitted.”

Graham went on to say, “I hope and pray every Republican will reject what Nancy Pelosi did, and we’ll pick up a few Democrats.”
