House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refused to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate for a trial (and probable acquittal) on Thursday, which prompted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to slam impeachment as the “most rushed, least thorough, and most unfair” in modern history. He accused Pelosi and other Democrats of being “too afraid” to send their “shoddy work” to the Senate for trial.
But Pelosi apparently didn’t have an answer for McConnell’s assertions, because when a reporter dared to bring up his comments, she shut them down with an angry tirade and refused to answer questions on the subject.
McConnell’s remarks, Pelosi said, “reminded me that our Founders, when they wrote the Constitution, they suspected there could be a rogue president. I don’t think they suspected we could have a rogue president and a rogue leader in the Senate at the same time.”
She then turned on the reporter asking a follow-up question.
“Any other questions on any other things?” she sullenly asked reporters. “Anyone want to talk about the Mexico free trade agreement? Anybody care about that? Jobs for the American people? Progress in addressing globalism and the issues?”
“Any other questions because I’m not going to answer any more questions on this,” she said. “When we see what that [Senate impeachment] process is, we will know who and how many [articles of impeachment] we want to send over.”
“I’m not going to go there anymore. Frankly, I don’t care what Republicans say.”
It’s a commonly used tactic by Pelosi and one that she seems to get away with regularly. She has refused to answer questions about impeachment at other points in the process as well, including the same day crucial votes were held to move the process forward.
If she really thought she had a strong case for impeaching the president, why would she feel the need to shut reporters down? I would think she would want to talk about it for as long as she possibly could. Instead, we’ve gotten meaningless canned talking points and repeated shutdowns of questions by the press.
The funniest thing is, she won’t even answer softball questions designed to allow her to keep spewing her garbage. That’s how bad her case for impeachment is. I honestly think I, as a conservative, could make a better case for Trump’s impeachment than these Democrats have done.
I won’t, though, because, like more than half of American voters out there, I don’t actually think Trump’s done anything impeachable.
And he’s right that impeachment is a scam the Democrats are trying to run on voters to bring Trump down. But it’s not working, is it, Pelosi?
