Pelosi’s archbishop bars her from receiving Holy Communion

Breitbart News reports that Salvatore Cordileone, the archbishop of San Francisco, California, has now barred House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from receiving Holy Communion due to her pro-abortion stance.

Cordileone revealed his decision in a tweet that he posted on Friday.

“After numerous attempts to speak with Speaker Pelosi to help her understand the grave evil she is perpetrating, the scandal she is causing, and the danger to her own soul she is risking, I have determined that she is not to be admitted to Holy Communion,” he wrote.

Cordileone also attached to the tweet a link to a more in-depth explanation of his decision.

Cordileone explains

What Cordileone reveals is that his decision to bar Pelosi was not spur-of-the-moment.

According to Cordileone, he wrote a letter to Pelosi in early April telling her that “should you not publicly repudiate your advocacy for abortion ‘rights’ or else refrain from referring to your Catholic faith in public and receiving Holy Communion, I would have no choice but to make a declaration, in keeping with canon 915, that you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”

Cordileone goes on to say that Pelosi has refused to cooperate, which is why he has now decided to take action.

Addressing Pelosi, Cordileone writes, “I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publically repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.”

 “A manifestly grave sin”

Cordileone highlighted the fact that the Catholic Church has made it very clear that it is against abortion.

He further stated that a politician, like Pelosi, who publicly supports abortion despite knowing the church’s teaching, “commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others.”

Pelosi has not responded to Cordileone’s decision.

Chances are she will just brush it off by finding a “Catholic” church that will continue to provide her Communion despite her anti-Catholic, pro-abortion stance.
