Photographer takes Pelosi’s Jan. 6 panel to court over ‘invasive and sweeping’ subpoena

While most journalists have cheered on the Democratic Party’s latest witch hunt and its casual evisceration of civil liberties, one freelance photographer is holding fast to the free speech principles that were once widely defended in her profession.

According to Just the News, photographer Amy Harris is taking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s hyper-partisan Jan. 6 select committee to court over an “invasive and sweeping” subpoena for her phone records.

Freelancer sues House panel

Harris’ photos have been featured in major news outlets like The Washington Post. She was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, where she documented the unrest and interacted with members of the “Proud Boys,” according to Just the News.

For that, Democrats are demanding that her phone company hand over three entire months of her personal records, from the beginning of November 2020 through the end of January of this year. Verizon plans to comply with the subpoena.

Harris is challenging the draconian subpoena in court, saying it violates her First and Fourth Amendment rights, obstructs her ability to do her job, and could expose her to “bodily harm.”

Harris is part of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), which also denounced the committee’s snooping in a statement.

“Such actions have a chilling effect upon the core First Amendment values critical to the democratic principles the Committee was established to protect and we hope they will seriously reconsider their position in this matter,” the group said, as Just the News reported.

Dems target dissent

While Harris is absolutely correct, one wonders why there aren’t more journalists speaking out against the committee’s tactics.

There has been virtually no scrutiny from the press of the committee’s sweeping demands for private information from individuals who have been accused of no crime. Far from it, liberals in the media spent much of this week gloating over the exposure of former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows’ private texts.

They have framed virtually any opposition to the Democrats’ show trial — including the invocation of 5th Amendment rights by those subpoenaed — as being suspect, while applauding capricious threats to jail Trump allies.

The committee has even targeted those involved in a peaceful Trump rally on the day of the riot.

It couldn’t be clearer what Democrats are up to: They’re trying to make opposition to the Biden regime into a crime, and the Biden regime’s loyal propagandists in the media are helping them do it.
