Alyssa Farah spent two years serving as press secretary for former Vice President Mike Pence before going on to become the White House’s director of strategic communications.
Despite working in former President Donald Trump’s administration, the former Pence staffer has reportedly just accepted a job with CNN — one of the Trump White House’s harshest and consistent mainstream media critics.
Mediaite reported on Sunday that Farah will be starting at CNN as a political commentator. While that move may strike some as odd, it actually fits with her recent rhetoric.
Farah on Jan. 6 riot
Mediaite noted that Farah gave an interview to Politico immediately following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in which she blamed the violence on “our elected leadership who allowed these people to believe that their election was stolen from them.”
What’s more, Farah went on to allege that the former president “and certain advisers around him are directly responsible” for what had unfolded.
She then deplored the “heightened rhetoric that is so divisive and that makes people feel that it’s us versus them at all times rather than we’re one America.”
Farah has also lashed out at former Trump administration members who have refused to co-operate with the Jan. 6 House select committee tasked with investigating the events that happened that day.
A “thorn” in the GOP
“Congressional oversight needs to matter,” Mediaite quoted Farah as telling CNN host Pamela Brown during an interview last month.
“And some of the people currently who are defying congressional subpoenas themselves have in the past said how important the power of the subpoena is,” she continued.
Farah added: “So why Republicans are now falling on their swords to defend this man who perpetuated the myth that led to Jan. 6, who has been a thorn in the side of the party for nearly a decade now, is just beyond me.”
According to People magazine, Trump shot back with a statement describing Farah as “a ‘backbencher’ in the White House,” who has since become “a nobody again.”
“I watched this clown on television saying exactly what they wanted her to say and I watched the lies,” the former president asserted. “Was she paid by low-ratings CNN?”
