Vice President Mike Pence wants to end coronavirus-related lockdowns and get the country moving again.
According to a report from the Washington Examiner‘s Paul Bedard, Pence has been making the rounds across the country to promote President Donald Trump’s plans to get Americans “back to work” — and “back to worship” — in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of this effort, Pence has visited states like Pennsylvania and Arizona on his “Faith in America” tour and his more recent “Great American Comeback Tour,” the latter of which was the backdrop of a new ad released this week that, according to Bedard, made clear that Pence is all-in on reopening schools, churches, and businesses and “reviving” the American economy.
“We’re going back to work,” Pence says in the commercial, which was put together by the pro-Trump nonprofit group America First Policies, according to Bedard. “We’re going back to worship.”
“The great American comeback”
Citing “the leadership the president [has] provided,” Pence promised Americans in the ad that “in the days ahead,” the Trump administration will “continue to create a solid foundation for whatever challenges may lie ahead. And we’re going to do it in a way that puts America back to work.”
According to Bedard, the $4 million commercial highlights many of the Trump administration’s efforts on that front. “You know we’ve all passed through very challenging times over the last several months,” Pence can be heard saying at the beginning of the clip.
“The great American comeback has begun,” the VP added, according to Bedard’s report. Take a look:
“It’s time to do it”
The Trump administration has indeed been working hard to stimulate the economy and restore some semblance of normalcy in the wake of COVID-19. Most recently, President Trump himself said Tuesday that failing to reopen American schools this fall over concerns about the coronavirus would be a “terrible decision,” as Politico noted.
“We want to reopen the schools. Everybody wants it. The moms want it, the dads want it, the kids want it. It’s time to do it,” Trump added at a press conference at the White House earlier this month. Vice President Pence also spoke at that presser.
“It’s important that we reopen our schools…for the academic and the intellectual development of our children, but it’s also vitally important that we remember…that 7 million American children suffer from either mental illness or emotional disturbance, and they principally receive the care from health and mental services at their school,” Pence said, according to a White House transcript. “We can bring our schools back.”
It seems that as far as the White House is concerned, the era of COVID-19 lockdowns is all but over. It’s time to get America back on track.
